Kate Maloney

Founder & CEO

Kate’s passion for serving the community began at a young age. Influenced by the charitable endeavors of family members and teachings at her primary school, she developed a keen awareness for others. She has always been loving and compassionate, laying the foundation for her joy for helping the community. Her enthusiasm for the world is contagious, and she strives to make it a better place for everyone across the globe.

Kate Maloney is the founder and CEO of Bandages Across Borders. She was born and raised in Delray Beach, Florida and currently attends the University of Southern California where she is pursuing a degree in global health. Kate hopes to one day become a leader in the global health field, helping to break down the barriers to achieving the highest level of health and education for all populations across the globe.

Kate was inspired to create Bandages Across Borders after touring an underserved village in Zimbabwe where she observed a lack of healthcare and a need for essential healthcare supplies. Pursuing her love of others, Kate brainstormed ways she could make a continued impact in the global health community founding Bandages Across Borders to make lives easier for people living in similar situations across the globe.

Our Story

Kate and her family delivering essential supplies to children from a township in South Africa in 2016.

Buzz buzz. I woke up to the sound of my phone firing. I was receiving text messages from the leader of a ministry in Haiti where Bandages Across Borders had made their first supply donation. The texts contained pictures and videos of children from the ministry’s orphanage joyously running around, waving their brand new toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste. It looked like Christmas morning, and for the children, it basically was. It was a proud yet sobering moment for me.

Bandages Across Borders got its start halfway across the world when I was on a family vacation in Zimbabwe at the age of 14. Our local guide gave us a tour of his village which was devoid of many resources and supplies that I would consider essential for daily life. When passing the hospital, the exterior appeared modern and fully operational, but our guide later explained that the hospital couldn’t operate because it didn’t have the necessary medical supplies or professionals to staff it. My stomach was in knots.

As our trip continued I couldn’t stop thinking about the hospital. I wondered how many other places in our world had similar problems. I realized that things I take for granted are a luxury for others. Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege, and I don’t feel it’s fair for access to basic health needs to be based on one’s financial situation or geographical location. I came back from Africa motivated to make a difference and attack the problem: the lack of essential healthcare supplies in low-income countries and impoverished areas.

I created Bandages Across Borders because I wanted to make a continued difference while intimately connecting with the lives of the people I was impacting. I have always shared a love for the world and embraced the rich diversity of individuals, thought, and culture that thrives in healthy, supportive environments. Bandages Across Borders is a way for me to spread my love for others while working towards creating these safe, healthy communities that allow people to enjoy their best lives.

My dream would not be possible without the help and support of my local community. The dedication and support of past sponsors and volunteers both motivates and enables me to continue moving forward with my journey to cultivate change and a culture of giving back. Thank you for joining the conversation on how we can continue to assist each other to strengthen our health, safety, and happiness, and I look forward to the future of Bandages Across Borders and the strong, dynamic community that we are creating.
